Small business owner optimism rose to levels near last year's record highs in the latest Wells Fargo/Gallup Small Business Index. The Index registered at 113 for Q2 2007, nearly matching the high-score of 114 in Q4 2006. The Index tracks six key measures for both current and future expectations: financial situation, cash flow, revenues, capital allocation, job hiring and credit availability.

But mobile banking is here to stay and will grow significantly faster than online banking, according to a new report from Celent, "US Mobile Banking: Beyond the Buzz." By 2010, 35% of online banking households will be using mobile banking, up from less than 1% today. New functionalities will make mobile banking distinct from online banking and attract users.

Mortgage rates increased slightly this week, with the average 30-year fixed mortgage rate rising to 6.32 percent. According to Bankrate.com's weekly national survey of large lenders, the 30-year fixed rate mortgages had an average of 0.26 discount and origination points.

The European Commission concluded that Cyprus has achieved a high degree of sustainable economic convergence with the euro area Member States and that it fulfils the necessary conditions to adopt the euro. On the basis of this positive Convergence Report, the Commission proposes to the Council that Cyprus adopts the euro on the 1st of January 2008.
